McMillen High School Choral Program 
 
The McMillen High School Choir program offers a variety of performing organizations to meet the needs of any student interested in singing. Placement is based on sight-reading ability, tonal memory, and tonal quality. All groups are designed to teach self-discipline and commitment while working together toward a common goal of excellence and fostering an appreciation of choral music. 
 
Choral Opportunities 
 
Tenor/Bass Chorus - Choir of 9th and 10th grade male voices. This choir will perform at all choir concerts and UIL. Members of this choir are encouraged to participate in private voice lessons and other auditions throughout the school year. 
 
Treble Chorus - Choir of 9th and 10th grade female voices. This choir will perform at all choir concerts and UIL. Members of this choir are encouraged to participate in private lessons and other auditions throughout the school year. 
 
Treble Select Chorus- Auditioned choir made up of 9th and 10th grade female voices. This choir will perform in all choir concerts and UIL. Members of this choir are strongly encouraged to participate in private voice lessons, all-region, solo contest, and other auditions throughout the school year. 
 
Chorale - Auditioned choir made up of 9th and 10th grade female and male voices. This choir will perform at all choir concerts and UIL. Members of this choir are strongly encouraged to participate in private voice lessons, all-region, solo contest, and other auditions throughout the school year. 
 
Mane Attraction - Auditioned vocal jazz/pop group made up of female and male voices. This choir meets outside of the school day and performs at various events throughout the school and community. Students in this ensemble must remain academically eligible. 
 
Spotlight - Auditioned vocal jazz/pop group made up of female voices. This choir meets outside of the school day and performs at various events throughout the school and community. Students in this ensemble must remain academically eligible.

McMillen High School Choir Students are required to fully participate during daily class time rehearsals, attend after school rehearsals, and are required to perform at co-curricular evening concerts. We prepare for 4 concerts throughout the school year: Fall Concert, Winter Concert, UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Adjudication, and Spring Concert. MHS Choir Students acknowledge all rehearsal expectations, grading guidelines, fees, and personal conduct expectations found in the McMillen High School Choir Handbook. Through choral music- we build relationships-- through relationships-- we build a team-- a choral family!  Students wishing to be placed in a choir should contact Mrs. Knight to set up an audition. 
 
 
 

Music

Student Information

All choir students are expected to attend both before- and after-school rehearsals and concerts at various times during the school year. (Events are on the calendar and/or notice will be given in advance.) Students are also expected to consistently maintain eligibility by passing all classes with a 70 or higher throughout the year and held to the highest expectations in regard to conduct. These expectations are important as all choirs will be participating in contest. At times the choirs will combine their voices with other groups during performances.

*Students in choir are highly encouraged to enroll in private voice lessons offered through the school by a professional voice faculty. Private voice lessons are available during all class periods and before and after school.
